The editing area stretches to fit the width of your browser. This gives you the most accurate view of how each page will look on the live site (for most web sites).
If your site is "fixed width" (i.e. it does not get wider or narrower depending on the width of the browser or screen) it may be beneficial for you to reduce the width of your browser while editing your pages. To do this move your cursor to the far top right of your screen where there are three boxes. Click on the center one ("Restore Down"). You can then adjust the width of your browser by "grabbing" (clicking and holding down your mouse button) the bottom right corner of the browser and "dragging" the corner to the size you want.
