Web templates expedite the process of setting up a new website. The idea behind a web template is that it will save time with the creative design and the technical building process - bringing your website live to the world much sooner and with less stress and less cost.
Professional Design without the Time and Cost
In the business world, time is money; hence, using templates can save money. It can be a challenge to find a web designer for hire, and quite often the designer's schedule will not always mesh with the needs of a small business. Time rarely controls a web graphic designer. There are generally two types of website templates: fully setup and hosted templates where you just put in your information and the web site is ready to go live (Chilli Websites provides this type of template); and template websites which are downloaded and edited on your computer and then uploaded to your server to go live.
The fully setup and hosted templates use an online WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor which allows even an inexperienced user to easily edit their web site pages and manage their own web site. This is generally a faster and easier solution but is less flexible than "downloadable" templates.
Downloadable templates will require HTML Editor software of some description on your computer (i.e. Dreamweaver, FrontPage, Web Express to name a few) and require a more technical setup to be able to upload the completed web site (and future amendments) to your server. One downside to this is that a lot of people will finally figure out how to configure and upload their web site after many hours of work and will be excited to send their new web site live - but when it comes time to update the web site in a month or two they will have forgotten everything they figured out and will face a daunting task to try to "re-figure" it out. Fully hosted web site templates are much more intuitive and user friendly in this respect.
Hosted templates offer an "all in one" package solution which prove easy to setup and also easy to come back in a month or two and be able to edit. They are the best solution for small businesses who want to setup and manage their own web site easily and at a low cost in both dollars and time. Downloadable templates are a good solution for businesses who want to invest more time and money up front and in the future in their web site and who expect to be working on their web site on a day to day basis - the payoff is that they will allow you more flexibility in the overall website structure.
Web templates offer business owners and webmasters a great opportunity to minimize development time and get new sites on the web sooner rather than later. The structure of web templates allow webmasters to focus on the proprietary content development, and optimizing the website for search engines, rather than struggling with layout and graphics.
